What is Sunset Beach?
Sunset Beach is a neighborhood of Huntington Beach located beachfront in Orange County California. In 2011, the city of Huntington Beach annexed Sunset Beach to be a part of the city. Sunset Beach was established in 1904 and developed as result of the 1920 discovery of oil in the Huntington Beach Oil Field.
Outdoor Activities in Seal Beach
With the serene and expansive beaches within Seal Beach, it is hard not to think about the outdoor activities that are available for residents and visitors. Seal Beach is home to the second-longest wooden pier in California, and makes for a great place to fish, watch wildlife and enjoy pristine sunrise/ sunset views. Another activity is to visit “Slick,” who resides at the beginning of the pier. “Slick” is a statue of a seal who many visitors visit, take pictures with, and appreciate. Finally, you have to visit Seal Beach, where visitors can swim, surf, windsurf, and relax on the sand. When you are on the beach, it is quite common to see dolphins, whales, and of course, seals, in their natural habitat. Along with the sea animals, it can be fun to watch large cruise ships make their way across the horizon.
Recreation in Sunset Beach
Sunset Beach is home to one of the widest beaches in Southern California. This portion of Huntington Beach is a coastal community and has a 14-acre park known as the “Green Belt,” where residents can go for a jog or walk their dogs.
Californian Culture
Throughout Sunset Beach, the laid-back surf culture is very prominent. The beach here is known for picturesque sunsets, beautiful beaches, and tons of waves to be caught on a sunny day. Due to Sunset Beach being a part of Huntington Beach, the surf culture really resonates with the community. Many residents tend to embody this culture and leading a laid-back lifestyle.
