Save Your Skin from Skin Cancer

Skin cancer is one of the most common types of cancer there is, especially for the beach culture we have in Southern California nearly all year around.  The fact is, if you have had a history of sunburn, chances are you are at a higher risk of developing skin cancer. According to the skin cancer foundation, there are steps that you can take to dramatically increase your chances to prevent skin cancer altogether.

For example, avoid the sun as much as possible during peak sun hours, which is typically between 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.  Whether you must stay indoors or find shades outside, the ultraviolet rays are the strongest and it is best to avoid it. However, if you must be outdoors, always remember to apply sunscreen to your entire body, ideally 30 minutes prior to going outside.  In addition, the sunscreen should always be rated SPF 15 or higher.  It never hurts to perform a self-examination every month for moles or other irregularities.  Lastly, be sure to visit your doctor each year for a professional exam also!
