The History
In June of 1957, the city of Fountain Valley was incorporated. The name chosen for the city refers to the very high-water table in the area at the time it was chosen and during this time, there were many artesian wells which existed. The city of Fountain Valley is surrounded by Huntington Beach, Westminster, Garden Grove, Santa Ana, and Costa Mesa. During the late 1800s up until the incorporation of Fountain Valley, the area was primarily swamp land which was a great area for agriculture.

The largest and most notable amenity within Fountain Valley is Mile Square Regional Park. Located at 16801 Euclid St, Fountain Valley, CA 92708 stands the 640-acre park which contains two lakes, 18-hole golf course, playing fields, picnic areas, nature area, and recreation center. The city has a total of 18 churches, 1 synagogue, and a mosque along with two fire stations, and the Fountain Valley Police Department. The Orange County Water District manages the groundwater basin in central and northern Orange County and operates the Groundwater Replenishment System, which happens to be the world’s largest water purification plant for groundwater recharge. The city of Fountain Valley also has its own newspaper which is operated by the Orange County Register and is called the Fountain Valley View.

Within the Fountain Valley School District, there are a total of 10 schools located within the city limits. There are a total of 7 elementary schools and three middle schools. The high schools are not within the Fountain Valley School District but are a part of the Huntington Beach Union High School District, Garden Grove Unified School District, and Ocean View School District. There are higher education resources within Fountain Valley, one of which being Coastline Community College which has three small campuses in Garden Grove, Newport Beach, and Westminster with the administration building located in Fountain Valley.
Politics in Fountain Valley
Fountain Valley continues to be primarily Republican, with 39% being registered Republicans, 29% being registered Democrats, and 27% are registered independents. From 1976 to 2016, the residents voted Republican, and in the 2016 election year, they voted Democrat but in 2020 they quickly pivoted back to Republican political views.
