What is a healthy diet?
A healthy diet varies per individual, depending on any diseases or illnesses that they may or may not have. But, in most cases, a healthy diet would consist of a well-balanced meal of breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Sometimes, people will also stick with six small-portion meals a day:
What does a healthy diet look like, particularly for seniors?
- Lean protein (lean meats, seafood, eggs, beans)
- Fruits and vegetables (think orange, red, green, and purple)
- Whole grains (brown rice, whole wheat pasta)
- Low-fat dairy (milk and its alternatives)

As we get older, our doctors tend to inform us of switching up our diets to “fresher” and less “processed” foods. Although we all deserve to treat ourselves every now and then with a sweet or two, it is important to monitor what we put into our bodies. This is something that our caregivers at A-1 Home Care agency specialize in as well. Our twenty-four-hour service caretakers work with our senior patients’ doctors to find the best-fit diet and, overall, lifestyle for them.
And if your loved one is on a specific diet due to a heart or kidney disease or because they have diabetes or are vegetarian or vegan or gluten-free or avoid Non-GMO, Hollywood will fit right into any of these lifestyles. The city has many local neighborhood stores with a wider selection of foods for these diets. Check out Sprouts or Whole Foods!
